5 Wedding Reception Trends For 2015
Food for Foodies
When it comes to making a statement at the reception, having a memorable menu comes to mind. Your guests will be in heaven when they see the bounty of tastes in front of them. Brides are selecting menus now with more refined flavors because “being a foodie” is a commonplace passion. Brides are using their receptions menu as a way to delight and tantalize the taste palette of guests and explore culinary options that are out of the norm.
Out of the box appetizers are also hot this year. Artisan popsicles are being served at outdoor summer weddings and martini glasses filled with mac & cheese are a chic new trend. So when you’re planning your menu don’t be afraid to explore something a little different. Don’t be afraid to talk with your catering manager about your favorite dishes and see if they can create a version for your wedding guests.
Simple Center Pieces
Center pieces are often a headache for brides. Do you go with simple flowers or something more creative that sets the mood? Brides are really pulling out the stops when it comes to center pieces this year.
There are so many opportunities to use things that are different and unique. Think about using small succulent plants in little wooden crates for a rustic look or bright bold colors to add a punch to a simple white table cloth. Pair classic with eclectic or country with modern and create a look that is totally unique.
Craft Brews

A few years ago, it was the martini and now it’s craft beers. With people opting for menus with unique twists, having a selection of craft beers, especially from local breweries, is a huge trend for receptions. Couples are opting for small glasses of beer for guests to taste and converse about during cocktail hour or trays of local favorites being offered as appetizers are served.
As more and more people grow passionate about local merchants, they have opportunities to share things from their everyday lives. From something as simple as a pint of their favorite bars seasonal suds to wedding cake infused with Stout, we expect these wedding reception trends to be around for a while. More men are also getting in on the planning process and wanting to see their tastes reflected in the event! That’s exciting news for many wedding professionals and creates a whole new opportunity for a unique event.
Lounge Areas
It’s always been a concern of couples when it comes to the time period after the wedding but before the reception starts. No one wants their guests left with nothing to do for an hour (or sometimes more) while photos are taken.
Having a lounge area is one way to keep guests comfortable and provide an opportunity for having a drink and maybe an appetizer before the reception begins. You can create a lounge area that’s formal or informal and include a few special touches to make guests comfortable and entertained.
Handmade Favors

Although it’s not required, many brides like to make sure their guests leave with a little something special to thank them for sharing this special day. Many are opting for handmade gifts like fresh baked cookies, for a little something special to send guests away with.
Think useful and unique when you plan this part of your wedding. It’s not something that should be rushed or done “just because”. Take time to make it special and personal!
